I have been a lover of music for as long as I can remember. Every genre, it would seem, has something nestled within its scales and chords that grabs my attention for a lifetime. So, when I was approached to be a potential member of the MCYO Board of Directors, I was pleasantly surprised and excited! This excitement came to fruition when I was asked to be a part of the Winter Concert at Strathmore. Myself and 3 other board members, including our president, Bill Ford, were offered the pleasure of reading several names of service members that lost their lives trying to save the lives of others during our country’s most recent and catastrophic event in recent history, the tragedy of 9/11.

During the weeks leading up to the actual event, I was granted permission to view several rehearsals. These kids are extremely dedicated and talented individuals who, mind you, only have 8-10 rehearsals to learn and perfect their performances.

On the afternoon of the first show, everyone was naturally buzzing with anticipation… as well as a bit of nervousness, including our own Kristofer Sanz. When the time came to give my small contribution to such an enormously moving piece, the feeling throughout the entire hall was amazing. I believe I could even hear a few sniffles throughout those in attendance. 🙂 It was an incredible day, and only piqued my interest in being even more involved in spreading the word regarding such a talented group of children, a gracious group of parents, and a very dedicated Board of Directors. May 2012 be the most developmental/fun/earth-shattering year yet!!
