Meet the Chamber Strings Conductor

Here, young musicians grades 4 through 6 begin honing their talent.  Violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp players learn the fundamental skills required for successful team play and rehearsals.  Proficiency at sight-reading, orchestral bowing, following the conductor, learning to share music with a stand partner  is emphasized.

"MCYO is a fun time to play music and have the experience of a lifetime! Our orchestra fits together like the melody and harmony of singing.  Your are  not alone: your section is one...filled with beautiful and harmonic sounds"

Meet the Young Artists Conductor

Oh, the thrill of being part of a full orchestra!  For 6th through 8th graders proficient on violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, harp and percussion...this is huge! They get to take their perfected rudimentary skills to the next level!  From learning to perform in a variety of style periods -- to the special camaraderie that results from being part of a full orchestra -- the growth that occurs at this level is astounding.
See Young Artists Repertoire

"I really like that the tubas sound can be heard no matter how many instruments are playing!  The tuba is a big instrument and it can make rich full sounds that can make the orchestra sound a lot better.  Playing the tuba in the orchestra is so exciting ... I think it is a blast!

Meet the Symphony Conductor

Now the fine-tuning really accelerates!  These 'seasoned' full orchestra 7th grade through 9th graders' repertoire includes all of the great masters -- including Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms!  Their technical skills become more fluid and refined -- as does their stage presence.  Performance opportunities significantly expand...along with their confidence. See Symphony Repertoire

"You know I am just a typical 13-year old:  I go to school, swim on my swim team, talk on the phone, and do homework.  But Wednesday nights at MCYO are always awesome!  This is my third year in MCYO, and I still look forward to every Wednesday night!"

Meet the Philharmonic Conductor

Extraordinary!  The 10th through 12 graders' artistry is comparable to professional musicians.  Their musical grace and fluency are now second nature.  Honored as the first youth orchestra to be showcased at the Kennedy Center, they now perform annually for the Christmas at the Kennedy Center broadcast!  Philharmonic musicians have performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, as well as in Switzerland, England, Wales, and Austria.  And let's not forget the ultimate: performing at Carnegie Hall.  See Philharmonic Repertoire

"The success I feel when the audience is captivated by the music makes the long hours of practice completely worth it.  I do not know of a better place where music, friends, junk food, and fun can all be combined within 21/2 hours"  Listen to our Philharmonic
